8th STS Italia Summer School Jointly Organized with STS Austria
STS Austria is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 8th STS Italia Summer School, titled “AI and the Future of Healthcare”, which will take place from 7 to 10 July 2026 at the University of Trieste (Italy). The Summer School is jointly organized by STS Italia and STS Austria, continuing a strong collaboration between the two associations.
The 2026 edition of the Summer School is dedicated to a critical exploration of the expanding role of artificial intelligence in healthcare. The programme focuses on emerging AI applications in clinical and public health settings and examines them through Science and Technology Studies (STS) perspectives, with particular attention to infrastructures, institutions, power relations, and sociotechnical imaginaries.
The Summer School is designed for early career researchers, including PhD candidates and postdoctoral scholars in STS and related fields, as well as participants from other disciplines interested in STS approaches. The programme combines conceptual and methodological training with interdisciplinary discussion and will be supported by an international faculty.

- Scholarship programme: STS Italia and STS Austria announce a scholarship programme comprising a total of 10 scholarships. Each scholarship fully covers the participation fee and all costs included in the fee.
- The scholarships are allocated as follows: 4 scholarship for STS Austria members; 6 scholarship for STS Italia
- Important notice: The annual membership fee for STS Italia or STS Austria is not included and must be paid separately by successful applicants.
